Tsum Valley Itinerary

  • Day 01 Arrive Kathmandu & Transfer to Hotel.

    On arrival in the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative from Himalayan Paradise who will drop you off at your hotel. After checking in, you may take a rest or visit Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu, for some souvenir shopping. In the evening, there will be a welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Paradise where you will be served excellent authentic Nepalese cuisine which will introduce you to Nepal’s food culture.

  • Day 02 Kathmandu: Sightseeing and Trek Preparation.

    Today we will take a guided tour starting around 9:00, to several of the main historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites; including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the Swayambunath Stupa also famous as the 'Monkey Temple' and Bouddhanath, the main Tibetan Buddist stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world. In the afternoon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. It also provides an opportunity to ask any questions you may have regarding your upcoming adventure to your Himalayan Paradise guide. Overnight in hotel

  • Day 03 Drive Kathmandu to Machha Khola, 6-7 hrs.

    It is a 7-8 hour's drive westward from Kathmandu to Machha Khola via Dhadingbesi, headquarters of the Dhading district. The road follows along the banks of the Marsyangdi and Trishuli rivers with splendid views of green hills, mountains, farming terraces and villages on both sides of the road. From Dhadingbesi, the road is unpaved and dusty but we enjoy the view of green hills till we reach Arughat. The road is more adventurous from here to Maccha Khola, the starting point of our trek. Machha Khola is the second major town in the region after Arughat and is built on the side of the Budhi Gandaki River. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 04 Maccha Khola to Jagat, 6-7 hrs.

    Today the trail has many ups and a few downs as it follows the rocky ravine of the Bhudhi Gandaki river, passing by terraced fields and Gurung villages. At this elevation the weather can be hot. There is a small trailside hot spring before we reach Tatopani. From the hot spring we climb over another ridge, then cross the Budhi Gandaki on a suspension bridge, climb a well-crafted staircase, cross a landslide and and pass over a ridge to Dobhan. We climb more stone stairs to Tharo Bharyang and cross to the west bank of the Budhi Gandaki and follow the river until we reach Jagat. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 05 Jagat to Chisopani, 6-7 hrs.

    After completing the ACAP permit procedure, we continue to follow the Budhi Gandaki upstream. We get inspiring glimpses of Ganesh Himal and Shringi. We climb over a rocky ridge to Salleri, and then descend to Sirdibas. The valley widens a bit as we near Ghatta Khola. After crossing a long simple hanging bridge we climb up to Philim, a large Gurung village which is famous for its Japanese made school and police station. We pass through a forest and notice that the valley is becoming narrower as we reach Chisopani. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 06 Chisopani to Chumling, 5-6 hrs.

    Today we leave the main Manaslu trail and enter the Tsum Valley from where the trail becomes more difficult. After Ekle Bhatti we cross the gorge, and walk on the right side for half an hour till we see the big and beautiful waterfall and enter the pine tree forest. At Nayapul the trail divides from the Manaslu Circuit trail, and we head off into the Tsum Valley, climbing through pine and rhododendron forests. From the small, beautiful village of Lokpa we enjoy the views of Himalchuli, 7893m and Boudha Himal, 6672m. Then we descend a rough trail for half an hour towards Lungwa Khola and climbing zig zag for two hours north through pine and rhododendron forests to reach Gumlung. Crossing the Siyar Khola, we finally arrive at the quaint village of Chumling, with its stone streets. We can view Shringi Himal from here and visit the ancient Chumling Gompa. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 07 Chumling to Chokhangparo, 4-5 hrs.

    Leaving Chumling we cross the suspension bridge onto the opposite bank of the Samatikring Khola. There are great views of Ganesh Himal. We might stop and explore Dhampa Gompa before we reach Rainjam village. We take it easily as we need to acclimatize. Again we cross a bridge over the Serpu Khola before we arrive at the Gho Village. From here a 2-hour continuous climb takes us to the village of Chhokangparo. Weather permitting, we enjoy views of Himalchuli,7893m, and Ganesh Himal, 7140m. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 08 Chokhangparo to Nile, 5-6 hrs.

    We need to be alert for altitude sickness while climbing above Chokhangparo so we take it fairly slow. Beyond Lamagaon we cross a rope suspension bridge to the Rachen Gompa, which is also well known as Nunnery Gompa. We make a short stop to explore and continue across the Shiar Khola. We pass through several well managed villages; Lar (micro hydro power), Phurbe and Pangdun. Passing an old historic Stupa of Buddha in the way, we cross to the village of Chhule. Continuing upstream, we cross another bridge to finally arrive at Nile. If you like we can make a visit to the famous Chhule monastery located at the top of the village. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 09 Nile to Mu Gompa, 5-6 hrs.

    From Nile we are almost close enough to see the Tibetan border. Today we have a short climb of about 3 hours to reach Mu Gompa. Walking on the west bank of the valley with the landscape of the Tibetan Plateau stretched out before us. There is time to visit the Dhephu Doma Gompa too. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 10 Mu Gompa, sightseeing, 5-6 hrs.

    Today is for exploration and sightseeing of the whole Mu Gompa region. Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region and lies at the highest and most remote part of the Tsum Valley. After exploring the Mu Gompa area, we have the option of climbing to the base of Pika Himal, 4865m. This is the highest and furthest point of our trek. Overnight in simple lodge

  • Day 11 Mu Gompa to Burgi Village via Milarepa cave, 5-6 hrs.

    We start retracing our steps for the return trek, passing through the villages of Chhule and Phurbe, on the east bank of the Shiar Khola. Finally we arrive at the small but beautiful Burgi village. From here we can climb up to the Milarepa's Cave. Milarepa Cave is known for its mesmerizing glimpses of Poshyop Glacier, Kipu Himal and Churke Himal. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 12 Burgi village –Chumling, 5-.6 hrs

    Our return trek is less strenuous and we enjoy the greenery hills and the backdrop of the snowy mountains. We pass through Chhokang Paro again and continue descending to Gho. Finally we arrive at the bridge over the Sarpu Khola and follow along the lower Tsum Valley to Chumling.

  • Day 13 Chumling to Philim, 6-7 hrs.

    We trek to Lokpa. After lunch we head south on a flat trail, pausing to enjoy the gorgeous Samba Falls. It’s a long and tiring descent to Philim. There is a trail that passes through the Phillim village that leads to the Ganesh Himal Base Camp. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 14 Philim to Khorlabesi, 7-8 hrs.

    Today we trek through Sirdibas Jagat, Yaruphant, Dobhan and Tatopani. The arid Tibetan climate now gives way to subtropical green vegetation. Although it is descending we feel exhausted when we reach Tatopani where there is a hot spring. We may be interested in taking a dip in the hot spring to relax our tired muscles. The remaining trail to Khorlabesi is undulating. Overnight in lodge

  • Day 15 Khorlabesi to Machha Khola trek 2 hours, same day drive to Kathmandu

    Our trail crosses the Tharo Khola flowing in a rocky ravine and follows the river down to Machha Khola village from where we find our vehicle waiting for us. Leaving the Budhi Gandaki Valley, we pass through Sante Bazaar, Maltar and the hydroelectric plant to arrive at the Arughat Bazar and finally Dhading Besi where we join the main road to Kathmandu. We will have a farewell dinner in the evening. Overnight in hotel

  • Day 16 Transfer to the airport for departure

    Depending on your flight time, you may want to shop for souvenirs or do some more sightseeing. We will drop you to the International airport to catch your flight home.
