Island Peak Climbing Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu,1,300m Day.

2: Flight to Lukla. Trekking to Monjo. 6-7 hrs.

Day 3: Monjo - Namche Bazar 4-5 hrs.

Day 4: Acclimatization.

Day 5: Namche Bazar - Thame 6-7 hrs.

Day 6: Thame - Lungden 6-7 hrs.

Day 7: Lungden - Renjo Pass - Gokyo 7-8 hrs.

Day 8 Climb Gokyo Ri and layover day.

Day 9: Gokyo - Ngozumpa Glacier - Thagnak  3-4 hrs.

Day 10: Thagnak - Cho-Pass - Dzongla 7-8 hrs.

Day 11: Dzongla - Gorak Shep 6-7 hrs.

Day 12: Gorak Shep - Everest Base Camp - Lobuche 6-7 hrs.

Day 13: Lobuche - Kongma-La Pass - Chukhung 6-7 hrs.

Day 14: Chukhung - Island peak Base camp 4-5 hrs.

Day 15: Summit day: Island Peak, 6,189 m.

Day 16: Base camp - Dingboche 6-7 hrs.

Day 17: Dingboche - Tengboche 5-6 hrs.

Day 18: Tengpoche - Monjo 6-7 hrs.

Day 19: Trekking end in Lukla 5-6 hrs.

Day 20: Flight to Kathmandu.

Day 21: Individual explorations Kathmandu.

Day 22: Final Departure.

  • Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu:

    One of the representatives from Himalayan Paradise will welcome you at the Tribhuvan International Airport after your aircraft lands. He/she will take you to your hotel where you will stay in the Kathmandu. You can freshen up and relax for a few hours. Later, in the evening, you will meet with your guide and explore the vibrant streets of Thamel. You will end your day with the delicious traditional dinner and cultural dance. 

  • Day 02 Flight to Lukla,Trekking to Monjo:

    Today, you will fly to Lukla Airport, which is known as the second dangerous airport in the world. The flight will be scenic and present you stunning views of hills and snow-capped Himalayan mountains. After reaching Lukla airport, you will begin trekking towards Monjo. Most of the trail includes easy ascend and you will reach Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate. From here, you will go through small villages like Chuthawa, Phakding, Benkar, and Chumoa. The trail will further take you to Ghat where you will take a small break to have lunch, and continue walking to reach Monjo village, which is located in the Dudh Koshi River Valley north of Phakding and south of Jorsale. Overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 03 Monjo - Namche Bazar:

    Today, you will trek towards one of the most famous and exotic place of the world, Namche Bazar. Following the Dudh Koshi River, you will enter in the Everest National Park region. From here, the trail ascends steeply through beautiful trees of rhododendron and magnolias. If the weather is clear you may see the view of Mt. Everest (8,848 m) at a far distant. Overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 04 Acclimatization:

    Today is your first acclimatization day at the Namche Bazar so that your body can get used to with the altitude. Namche Bazar is the biggest village of the Khumbu region, and also one of the largest Sherpa settlement areas. You will go on a short hike to Kunde where you will see the hospital established by Sir Edmund Hillary (first Everest climber). You will also get to see stunning views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Mt. Thamserku (6,623 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), and many other mountains. After spending some time in Kunde village, you will trek back to the Namche Bazar where you will stay overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 05 Namche Bazar - Thame:

    Following the trail in the west, you will ascend up to the Bhote Koshi River Valley, which once used to be a trade route that takes to Tibet. On the way, you will see several chhortens, mani walls, prayer wheels, and colorful prayer flags. Further, you will descend to the Bhote Koshi and ascend on a trail that will take you to the Thame. You will stay overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 06 Thame - Lungden:

    You will begin trekking on an easy trail along the bank of the Bhote Koshi River. After crossing the river on an old bridge, you will reach Marlung village and stop for a bit to have lunch. From here, you will descend through a dry and windy valley and reach Lungden where you will stop for the night. On the way, you can see several species of flora and fauna. Overnight in the teahouse. 

  • Day 07 Lungden - Renjo Pass - Gokyo:

    You will ascend for around an hour and pass through large sandy Kharka. Further, you will climb on a stone staircase and continue trekking through icy ridges to reach Renjo La Pass located at 5,549 meters. You can see captivating views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Nuptse (7,861 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), and many other mountains from the top of the pass. From here, the trail descends on a rocky spur and lead you to Gokyo village, your last destination of the day. On the way, you will also get to see mesmerizing views of the second lake, Taboche Tsho and the third lake where Gokyo is located. 

  • Day 08 Climb Gokyo Ri and layover day:

    Today is your second rest day at Gokyo. You will spend the day by exploring the region and hiking to the Gokyo Ri. You will begin hiking early in the morning. The trail will be steep ascend, and take you to the Gokyo Ri from where you will get to witness breath-taking views of the surrounding along with the stunning Ngozumpa glacier (biggest glacier of Nepal), Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m), Gyachung Kang (7,922m), Mt. Cho you (8,153m), and other numerous mountains. You will also see the fourth lake, Thonak Tsho and the fifth lake, Ngozuma Tsho. After spending some time at the top, you will hike back to your tea house for the night stay.

  • Day 09 Gokyo - Ngozumpa Glacier - Thagnak:

    After having breakfast, you will begin descending passing by the Gokyo Lakes. Further, you will trek on a steep rocky & icy section and cross the huge Ngozumpa Glacier. On the way, you will get to see the views that will last with yourself for the lifetime. The further descend will take you to Thangnak where you will stay for the night. Overnight in a teahouse. 

  • Day 10 Thagnak - Cho-Pass - Dzongla:

    Today, the trail is going to be difficult as you have to cross the Cho La Pass. You will begin ascending on a steep and icy path. Even though the trail is difficult, you don't require any special gear rather than ice ax and warm clothing. On reaching the pass, you will see it marked by several prayer flags and chhortens. From here, you will see captivating views of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt, Cholatse, and Mt. Taboche. Further, you will descend on a steep ramp to reach Dzongla village. You might also get to see the rare blue sheep on your way to Dzongla. Overnight in the teahouse.

  • Day 11 Dzongla - Gorak Shep:

    The first part of the trail will be easy. Further, you will trek over the giant meadows to the foothills of the Khumbu Glacier. On the way, you will get to witness snow-capped mountains like Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Cholatse, Mt. Pumori, and Mt. Tawoche. Trekking through the windy and rocky path, you will reach Gorakshep, which was the original location of Everest Base Camp. overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 12 Gorak Shep - Everest Base Camp - Lobuche:

    You will wake up early and have breakfast. After that, you will begin trekking towards the most famous Everest Base Camp located at 5,400 meters in the lap of mighty Mt. Everest (8,848 m). You also have the option to ascend to the Kala Patthar from where you will get to see 360-degree panoramic views of the Everest and other surrounding mountains. After spending some time at the EBC, you will trek back to Lobuche following the same route as you came. Overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 13 Lobuche - Kongma-La Pass - Chukhung:

    The trail will be easy today. You will ascend and enter a wide basin filled with small frozen lakes. Further, the trail drops to Kongma La Pass and descend to the east side of Niyang Khola Valley. On the way, you will get to see wonderful views of Island Peak, Mt. Baruntse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Amphu Lapcha. The trail from here will take you to the Chukung village where you will stay overnight. In the evening, you will prepare for your summit and stay in a tea house.

  • Day 14 Chukhung - Base camp:

    You will begin ascending on a steep trail to the north and then turn east to the main trail of the valley. Further, you will trek on a zigzag trail below the southern flank of a moraine. From here, you will trek following a stream, and trek on a crisscross route through the Lhotse and Imja glacier. You will reach Island Peak Base Camp where you will stay for the night and also prepare for your summit. 

  • Day 15 Summit day: Island Peak, 6,189 m:

    Today, you will wake up way early in the morning around 2 A.m. and begin trekking to avoid strong winds, which might become the barrier to reach the summit later in the afternoon. After having tea and little snacks, you will begin trekking on a narrow mountain trail and enter in a steep rock canyon. Further, we will ascend through a steep gully, which includes numerous short steep climb as well. Following a ridgeline, you will traverse on the snout of the summit glacier. If the trial demands to use rope then your guide will fix it for you. On the way, you will cross crevasses using ladders. Upon reaching the top of the Island Peak, you will soak the enchanting beauty of the region, and trek back to the Base Camp for the night stay.

  • Day 16 Base camp - Dingboche:

    After having breakfast, you will descend down Dingboche. The trail will be relatively easy and go through small villages. On the way, you will also pass by rhododendron bushes and get to see beautiful landscape views. Upon reaching Dingboche, you will freshen up and spend the rest of the day celebrating your successful summit of Island Peak with your crew members. Overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 17 Dingboche - Tengboche:

    Today, you will descend down to Tengboche. If you are trekking in the Spring season, you will see mountains covered with colorful rhododendrons, which makes the entire region extremely beautiful. on the way, you will see wonderful views of Mt. Ama Dablam. Upon reaching Tengboche, you will rest and then explore the region. You will visit Tengboche monastery, which is one of the biggest and ancient monasteries of this region. You will stay overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 18 Tengpoche - Monjo:

    After having breakfast, you will descend down to Monjo. The trail will be short and easy. You will go through a lovely forest of rhododendron and pine, and reach Monjo where you stay for the night in a teahouse.

  • Day 19 Trekking end in Lukla:

    You will trek back to the Lukla today. The trail descends through small villages like Ghat, Chumoa, Benkar, Phakding, and Chuthawa. Upon reaching Lukla, you will relax for a bit and later explore the region. You will spend the rest of the eating local food with locals. Overnight in a teahouse.

  • Day 20 Flight to Kathmandu:

    After having a little breakfast, you will fly back to Kathmandu. The flight will be around 40-45 minutes and offers last views of the Himalayan mountains. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will be taken to your hotel. Later, you will then have lunch and go on a guided sightseeing tour. You will visit sacred Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa. overnight in the hotel.

  • Day 21 Individual explorations Kathmandu:

    It is your leisure day in Kathmandu. You can visit the local market and do shopping. You will also go on the guided sightseeing tour to Patan and Bhaktapur where you will see the ancient art and architecture. Both of this place has significant importance in the history of Nepal and is also the part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Later in the evening, you will have a farewell dinner with crew members. Overnight in the hotel.

  • Day 22 Final Departure:

    Transfer to International Airport and fly to your next destination.
